This Week: There's Strength In Needing People
If you quickly want to learn you can’t move through this world alone become an ultra runner. If you want a crash course in asking for help, sign up for an ultra. If you want to break your preference of tackling hard things alone, start training for an ultra.
I have a long history of being a self-proclaimed doer of hard things alone. Was I exhausted a lot of the time? Yep. Was I happy most of the time? Nope. But I got life done. Then I decided i wanted to be an ultra runner and got slapped across the face. Not only was running alone for 6 hours not nearly as fun ( although sometimes it is) as running with friends for 6 hours, but there is NO WAY you can make it thru a race alone. Also, the rest of life became so much easier and felt so much more full when we talked thru the everyday. Or in finding that comfortable silence and achieving a shared goal for the day. The training runs spent with friends resulted in feeling strong and motivated to take on whatever life had ahead of me.
So this week I want to open up the topic of how the running community has made you stronger? Lifted you up, or maybe just kept you from drowning long enough to find your forward momentum again.
