Sunday Edition: Six Pack Not Required
Today is Mother’s Day and with Salomon’s latest WMN campaign I’ve been thinking a lot about what IS strong? What does strong LOOK like? So often strong seems to get confused with extreme. You’re strong if you’re fast. You’re strong if you go far. You’re strong if you go alone. You’re strong if you look the part.
But I know for me, what makes me feel strong and what being strong means changes with different phases of life. Sure sometimes being alone was strong. Sometimes being “together” took even more strength. Occasionally choosing to stop: in a race, in a relationship, in work was brave. And of course, pushing out of that comfort zone takes grit that we often don’t even know we have.
What I am getting at is, that STRONG is just another label. Why as women do we have to do, act a certain way, or have a specific hobby to be considered strong, courageous, brave….. we just are. You just are! Women and men really. Being you; you’re strong.
I’ve had some people asking what I’m working towards. And if you read the last Sunday Edition you know my running confidence is in a rebuilding phase. I do have goal race though, it’s a big one. In July I’m going to run Ronda dels Cims. It will only be my third 100 miler. Diagonal des Foux was my first in 2017 and in 2018 I DNF’d Run Rabbit Run competing as a rabbit. I do have a coach, two actually (lucky me)! I’ve recently starting working with Addie Bracey and Corey Conner of Peak Training. After a phone call with the two of them and airing all the dirty laundry of my anxiety and insecurities I felt seen. I’m also secretly hoping some of their “be you, and be proud” mentality rubs off on me. These ladies are strong in the purest form of the word. We don’t have a ton of time to work together, but I’m excited. And excitement & happiness goes a long way.
What’s a time in your life that made you feel strong? Maybe only in hindsight? Or maybe the choice to get out the door each day? I say let’s label ourselves strong in the quiet moments just the same as the loud moments!
You’re all bright shining stars; happy trailing!
