Canyons 100K: Damian Hall

Damian Hall had an epic year in 2018 coming 5th at UTMB. This year he brings even more fire and passion to his training and races. Read on about going for a Golden Ticket at the Canyons 100k.

What was your last race? The Canyons Endurance Run 100K, in California, US.

How long have you been running consistently? I guess about six years.

What made you sign up for this race? Terrain, location, recommendation? Partly because it covers some of the legendary Western States 100 course, which I'd love to do one day, but it's hard to get into. And partly because Canyons 100K offered a Golden Ticket entry to the two men and women who finished first and second.

What did you eat the most at the aid stations? Probably watermelon. Sometimes dipped in salt. The cheese quesadillas were pretty good too.

High moments? Interactions with awesome aid station staff and all the other kind, supportive runners.

Low moment? Meh. My performance in general.

Do you listen to music? If yes, what's your song of the moment? I often do in races, yes. Mr November by The National has been my favourite song for about 73 years. I need to move on really.

Would you do this race again? Definitely. It's a blast. Though I'm probably better suited to longer, lumpier races in truth.

What race is next? The 105-mile Ultra Tour Monte Rosa in September. Though I'm contemplating doing another race beforehand.

What shoes did you wear? The inov-8 TERRAULTRA G 260, with graphene grip, were well ace again. Comfy, breathable, with stunning grip that endures too.

What race vest did you use? inov-8 Race Ultra Pro 5 Vest. It's incredibly versatile and comfy, too.

Favorite local running brand? inov-8 (if you hadn't guessed) are my sponsor, but I've chosen to work with them because they make the best kit, care about the right things and are simply good people.

Dream running destination? Race or holiday. Ooooh, that'd be Hardrock 100.

Thanks so much Damian! We can’t wait to see what you make happen at Monte Rosa, please come back and share! Follow Damian on Instagram @ultra_damno.
